| Dear Frustrated Parent, |
Wow, have I ever "been there!" I thought my oldest son had thyroid problems and a small case of laziness..
It wasn't until later that I figured out that something was different about him and the way he learned. He could stay up all night (and often did...driving me crazy!) and build a new computer.
... but get him to do a homework assignment in English? Oh Man! That was a nightmare! |

| My Two Sons are ADHD |
| |
My first son was never officially diagnosed with ADD / ADHD, but when my younger son was diagnosed, things started making a bit more sense.
I starting wondering about some of my own habits and the way I learned new things. I recalled "bouncing around my living room" in Dental School studying for exams.
My friends would often get aggravated if we studied together because I wouldn't sit down. |

The Real Problem
| |
Now I was wondering about the right thing to do for my second son, who was having trouble getting done with his exams on time. There was also stress every evening at home because he was so easily distracted and it would take "All Night" to get his homework done. Getting him out the door to school in the morning "was like pulling teeth"!
We took him to a psychologist who subsequently diagnosed him with ADHD. A Psychiatrist we took him to wanted to have him start taking medication to "control" his ADHD.

Why I'm Doing This
| |
That's how I got to this point. I read everything I could get my hands on about alternatives to medicating my son.
Pharmacology is part of my professional training (I'm a dentist of 27 years), and when you add this to hours of intensive research on the subject of ADHD and treatment...well, let's just say...
I didn't want to risk their future health. I didn't want to relegate them to a lifetime of drug dependence. I didn't want to cloud their bright, creative, out-of-the-box thinking. I didn't want to dampen their enthusiasm...
I just wanted them to have relief from the aspects of ADHD that could get in the way of their success and happiness. I wanted them to be able to focus, pay attention, to make sound decisions and be safe.
