How To Eliminate Your Child's ADD-ADHD with scientifically
proven natural methods. |

What You'll Learn

| Dear Frustrated Parent, |
 |
|
Seeing your child meltdown when he can't find a worksheet when he's already stressed over his homework, or having your child yell at you because he doesn't know what else to do with the pent up frustration from school is quite the rollercoaster ride, isn't it?
It's gut wrenching to see your child so stressed out, having low self esteem, being apathetic or distressed, having difficulties with other kids in the classroom.
And then other times, I'd feel frustrated and angry, thinking they weren't trying enough. |
|
| Often in my dental practice patients tell me about their kids, especially those who know I'm an ADHD parent who's done so much work on the subject. I have two ADHD sons, one "professionally" diagnosed, a grown one who wasn't diagnosed but has many of the traits (as I do as well). They're all looking for answers. |
|
|
|
| |
| |
Their comments go something like this... |
|
| |
 |
|
|
 |
"Chris' main ambition at school seems to be "Class Clown of the Year." I get notes and calls almost every day. Today instead of writing his essay, he used the paper to make a mask and had everyone laughing. The teacher wants me to do something about his behavior."
"Megan is smart, but her teacher says she's daydreaming all the time. When the rest of the class is facing the blackboard, my daughter's staring out the window."
"I really dread homework time at home. Michael and I get along pretty well until it's time to pull out the books and worksheets. It is so stressful, I think I'm beginning to dislike school as much as he does! I want to be a good parent, and the school says I need to reinforce at home, but it turns our home into a battle field."
When my sons were younger I often felt the same way as these parents. |
And there's more to it than the teacher's notes and phone calls, the poor grades, the battles over homework...
We love our kids. We know they have talents and strengths, and sometimes teachers see these but often all we hear is that they want our kids to change. But then after spending a vacation with a hyperactive child who talks non stop and jumps from one activity to another every 15 minutes or so, our frazzled nerves want change too! |

It's easy to see how pharmaceutical giants gained such a foothold. Even at the pre-school age, we have seen a 49% increase in prescribed medications for ADHD.

The Truth about ADD Drugs that your Doctor
may have NOT told you
|
|
| |
 |
|
|
Here are some things that led me to embark on a relentless mission to find effective natural remedies for ADHD. Having a pharmacology and chemistry (B.A. degree in Chemistry) background, it didn't take me long to decide this was not a route I wanted to take!
| |
|
 |
Until recently, physicians believed that Ritalin side effects remained as short-term. Scientists at the University at Buffalo found otherwise. |
 |
Ritalin has the potential for causing long-lasting changes in brain cell structure and function. There is evidence that early childhood exposure to Ritalin diminishes adult nerve cell development. |
 |
One study, conducted by Montreal Children's Hospital, looked at the long-term benefits of children using ADHD medications. This study concluded that, after five years, hyperactive children who used an ADHD medication did not differ significantly from children who had not received drug intervention. |
 |
The hyperactive children treated with Ritalin and other ADHD medications were initially more manageable but after five years, the children using an ADHD medication had the same degree of improvement and emotional adjustment as the control group of hyperactive children who did not receive ADHD medications. |

-
Both methylphenidate and amphetamine - that means Ritalin, Concerta, Adderal and Dexedrine - are powerful stimulants classified as Schedule II narcotics in the Controlled Substances Act since 1971. Ritalin is closely related to the illegal drug, methamphetamine.
|
|
|
|
|
It's true that stimulants can help ADHD children focus better.
Stimulants can help all of us focus better. |
| |
| |
|
... but are the heart palpitations, the dry mouth, the insomnia, the irritability, the worsened anxiety or depression, the stunted growth and the risk of even worse side effects worth it?
More than 2.5 million children in the United States are medicated with psycho-stimulants due to ADHD symptoms. Some may take this as proof that the medications work. I take it as just more evidence of how really powerful the pharmaceutical companies are - and that teachers and parents are desperately seeking help. Also keep in mind until this year, we had no reports or studies on the long-term effects. |
|
|
| |
|
|
The Big Trade-Off |
 |
| |
|
|
|
In a now rather famous The Wall Street Journal article the question is asked if the "Ritalin Revolution" will sap the country of potential genius - "in corporations, comedy clubs, art galleries, novels and films, research labs..."
Many of the most creative, innovative, and imaginative people who have ever lived have been diagnosed with ADHD or ADD and credit their success to this (and often to a supportive parent as well). People like David Neeleman, Founder of JetBlue Airways; Paul Orfalea, founder (and for 30 years) CEO of Kinko's; Michael Phelps, Gold Medal Olympic Swimmer; and the list goes on.
Neeleman is one of those who has never been medicated and shares tips for others on how he managed with starting his business. Neeleman who became Honorary Chairman of Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities in 2002 conveys to parents that these kids are both smart and talented and, if they get the help they need, can not only succeed but often excel.
He is often quoted as saying: "I'm afraid of taking drugs once, blowing a circuit, and then being like the rest of you."
|
| |
The traits of ADHD are also traits of the gifted, of the highly creative, the "inventor temperament," the entrepreneurial types and the "artistic temperament."
Yes, there are times when short term use of medication may be warranted - such as when a child is so hyperactive and/or impulsive he will dash out into the street oblivious to an oncoming car. But studies show medication alone isn't effective. Should medication become absolutely necessary, please educate yourself on all the effects it will have on your child and have a full evaluation done.
While researching ADD/ADHD medications and a wide array of natural treatments, I began to see patterns. The more I dug (like a dog after a bone) the more apparent it became...
The natural remedies with the most proven success were surprisingly simple, as natural as you can get, completely safe and readily available. If you have a grocery store near you, a park (or other green setting), and patience, you have everything you need within easy reach to make a huge difference for your child.
This book and other works I've published are a result of pouring over countless medical journal articles, research papers and books written by psychologists, university researchers, parents and physicians.
What started as a labor of love for my own children grew to a labor of love for all ADD/ADHD children and their families who might benefit from what I learned.
I learned how certain natural treatments - nutrition, exercise, art and play therapies, nature, behavior management and stress reducers - can all work together for best effect, but if you need help fast - to help your child focus, calm down ,ward off a meltdown, have a good day together...don't worry, because you'll also find many quick tips and treatments that alone can make a huge difference for your child. |

ADHD or ADD?
|
 |
Just a quick note about the terms ADHD or ADD to avoid confusion - these terms are often used interchangeably. However, this year (2008) the diagnostic term has been changed to ADHD only. As of last report, ADD is not going to be used anymore, although there is still differentiation of the hyperactive-impulsive component.
So instead of calling it ADHD or ADD, it's ADHD with three different types: hyperactive-impulsive, inattentive, or combined. For simplicity, instead of continuing to write "ADHD/ADD" and keeping with the proper terminology, I'll just say ADHD. If your child was diagnosed before 2008 with ADD, know this all applies to you too! |

Curse or Gift? |
 |
Believe or not, like a thorny rose bush, ADHD has its gifts. Whether it is more curse or more gift depends a lot on you - how you perceive your child's uniqueness, how you nurture the gifts, and how you manage the curses. I'm here to show you how to do all three in my book. |
| |
 |
A Parent's Natural
Remedy Guide to ADHD
Proven Methods to Help Your Child Nurture The "Gifts" of ADHD and Curb the "Curses" |
| |
The natural treatments outlined in this book will not take away your child's creativity, enthusiasm or sensitivity; however, they can greatly diminish hyperactivity, irritability, anxiety, and impulsiveness, as well as help your child to focus much better in school.
Even something as simple as aerobic exercise (in the right amounts, which the book details) has been shown to change the neurological structure in the brain in positive ways...

A Different Processor |
 |
|
You'll learn in this book that ADHD is considered by many experts to be a neurological condition. Think of it this way. The CPU (central processing unit) controls your computer...
The child with ADHD has a "different processor" than the average model. This is explained in everyday language why the remedies I show you work.
Although parenting a child with ADHD can be quite challenging, it can also be extremely rewarding as you see your child overcome difficulties and realize their full potential through their efforts as well as yours. |
This easy to use guide to healing your child and your family life is based on well respected studies and translated into everyday language. |

After all, this project is a lot more than selling this book for me. This is, and has always been, a labor of love for me. I said in the very beginning when I had several friends and patients encourage me to compile all of my research and work into one package, that this would first and foremost be A Labor of Love for me.
If educating my wife, my kids and myself about ADHD was the only thing I got out of all of my work, it would change my life. And IT HAS! |

I laugh at all these dolts
who diagnose drugs and try to "cure" people with ADHD.
by John Bitter, Ed.D.
DR. Ron:
I was just curious about what's
happening in the ADHD domain. I will be 80 years old next
March.
A few years ago I stumbled upon ADHD
while reviewing some materials for a colleague who was a school
counselor. As I read through the material I came to a section that
grabbed my attention. "These people are writing my biography and I
don't even know who they are," was my first reaction. I was stunned
to learn that such a condition existed and had been diagnosed as a
"disease." I always thought that it was just a natural condition.
I began looking into ADHD and
even diagnosed myself according to the "experts'"
standards. Surprisingly, almost all applied to me.
When I was a youngster in school the
officials diagnosed my as being "willful," or just plain
naughty. By the time I was in high school I was written off as
just no good, and the school system's psychologist evaluated me
and told me simply that I was just no good. "You can expect to
spend most of your adult life in prison," he told me.
To escape the clutches of the truant
officer I joined the Army and found it tailor made for an ADHD.
In the 22 years I was a soldier I never held the same job more
than 2 years, I went through a half dozen different career
fields, becoming an expert in most, and even discovered that I
wasn't stupid after all. I earned my GED, started taking
evening college courses, and after I retired became a journalist
and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree with honors, a Master's
and I even earned a doctorate just because I thought it would be
a neat thing to do.
I did all this before I even knew
there was such a thing as ADHD. When I learned about ADHD everything
became clear to me. Now I knew what my problem had been all
these years. I wasn't bad. I wasn't stupid. I just had ADHD. Taking my experiences into
consideration my best advice to young people diagnosed with
ADHD: Learn to live with it. Embrace it. You're not
deficient. You're superior.
I think more people should know
how to live with their blessing. I'm ever so thankful that I
wasn't a victim of the narcotic society when I was a child. |

Thanks for the email! I am so excited to have found your information. I
immediately took my 13 yr old off of Vyvanse yesterday and downloaded
your book and I have about 20 pages to read. I hopefully will get to
schedule an appointment to get his mineral evaluated, like the iron,
magnezeium, etc. |

I can't wait to dive into this
by Mindi Rorick
Dr. Ron,
Thanks for the follow up. So much of what
I've read of yours so far makes so much sense to me. My son was on stimulant
meds from the time he was 4 years old til just a couple months ago (he's 9
now). Now that we have a wonderful psychologist (I think our 4th or 5th one -
but finally the right one!), we finally realized that the fits and tantrums he
was having were caused by the meds. He's doing much better, but we still have
the issues with his inability to sit still in school, etc... I've just
started looking into what we can do from a nutritional standpoint to help
him; I have him scheduled for food allergy tests in another week. Thanks much. |

Can't wait to use your information to help my 8 year old boy
by Lorrie Hill
Thanks for everything,
Can't wait to use your information to help my 8 year old boy. Our first
teacher conference was last week. He only has trouble focusing and
paying attention according to the teacher. He is very intelligent, she
just has to repeat, repeat, repeat and get his attention over, and over
and over. |

I greatly am please to hear not just a professional person as your self but a parent who would not quit for his children
by Bruce Cowey
That is awsome! I 'll tell Debbie, wife. Jacob is doing a little
better. Finally, I've been working and searching ways to communicate
with our son. Jacob was a preemie at 24 weeks gestation. and He was
born with hearing loss in both ears. He can hear but cannot hear at
high frequency sounds. Jacob wears hearing aids.
Our progress with him is like a roller coaster in feelings. We read
many reports , listen to alot of Doctors. And teachers. One thing I did
do right is listen to my inner thoughts of wisdom form my opion from
the facts/ I've been involve with natural way of taking foods and
supplements and one of them that really help us was " Sun Chorella ".
Jacob had his immunine system build up and detox from all the medincine
and treatments inside him since birth as well his vowel moments since 2
years old has been great and no consipation and dirrea. These litttle
supplements great and Jacob likes them . They are eqivelient to taking
vegatables and fruit. The Japanese found a process that capture the
nutrient during heating process. It is safe and will help the
digestative system. I believe all kids need to detox and clean out the
digestative system to respond to all those great meals you listed.
Ron, I really will keep you inform of Jacobs progress. I hope to start
a support group here in Round Rock Texas./ His school Live Oak
Elementary is a great school that goes out of their way and help the
hearing impaired children like my son/ The support groups I 've been to
have been mostly with Autisum children. I believe in healing and
training from those whose experiences are vital to success.
I've taken up your time , Ron. I greatly am please to hear not just a
professional person as your self but a parent who would not quit for
his children. God Bless and thank you for kindness and work. |

Your knowledge is helping a lot people and giving inspiration to so many parents.
by Kelly Lucas
Your suggestions are simple to try, so it's a good place to start. I
have started to change up some of the things in his diet to see if that
makes a difference, along with a rewards chart at home with just 3
things to work on. I hope that he is just being a "boy," but he sure is
mighty hyper and definitely has a VERY difficult time staying focused
on somthing- easily distracted and quite impulsive. I was so
discouraged when he started prek and was getting notes home about his
behaviour. For, I am a gifted teacher and was embarrased!!! But,
reading what you have to say has given me hope that this can be
"managable" and really; life could be worse! |
